Jennifer Stephens MEd, LPCC-S, LBA, BCBA

Jennifer Stephens (She/Her) is the clinical supervisor and co owner. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor (LPCC-S) as well as a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in the state of KY. She obtained her Bachelors degree in psychology at Truman State University in 2004; during this time she gained experience through internships in forensic interviewing, trauma, grief and loss, attachment work, and biofeedback research. Her graduate clinical training is from The University of Missouri- St. Louis for her LPCC graduating in 2008. During this time she gained experience in both residential settings with children and as a social worker working with adults to support their mental health needs and aid in finding resources for those diagnosed with a range of diagnosis. She then completed her certification training through Florida Institute of technology for her BCBA in 2010. Prior to private practice she had worked in  community mental health from 2008-2014 at Seven Counties Services.

Her areas of specialty include trauma, autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, perinatal mood disorders and infertility, and supporting parents of Neurodivergent children. Training includes EMDR, advanced training in perinatal mood disorders through PSI, Exposure Response Prevention, Autplay Certified, and ASSECCT courses in Sex Therapy. She works with individuals as young as 2 all the way through adulthood. Her preferred age range is 10 and under and 18 +.

In addition to providing counseling services she works as a Behavior Analyst providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services through both the Michelle P Waiver and insurance. Her primary focus is on working with Neurodivergent individuals on functional skill development and generalization across settings. Her primary approach is utilizing ABA in the natural environment or through play based social groups.

She also provides supervision to those seeking supervision for both their LPCA as well as fieldwork experience supervision towards their BCBA; with supervision training and credentials for both as well as clinical supervision for those completing practicum or internships in counseling.

Krista Vavro MEd, LPCC-S

Krista Vavro is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of KY. She completed her Bachelors degree in psychology at the University of Michigan-Flint in 1995. Her graduate training is from The University of Louisville where she completed her degree in 2002 and was licensed in 2003. Krista has over 20 years experience providing therapy. She completed her internships at Highland Middle School and The Brook Hospital. She then worked for The Brook Hospital in their school-based services and then went on to begin a private practice named Louisville Counseling Associates, LLC. During her private practice years, she also worked with Jefferson County Public Schools under contract. She did this for over 10 years. She then began working at Seven Counties, INC in Shelbyville, KY part-time in 2011 and then eventually full-time in 2014. In the spring of 2015 she began working at Shelby County Public Schools full-time as a Mental Health Consultant until 2022. She has been with our group practice since 2017 working for us part-time and has now transitioned to full time private practice. She primarily enjoys working with adolescents, families, and adults with training in DBT and EMDR.

Mary Thompson MA, LPCC-S

Mary is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). During her Masters training she completed an internship with the Shelby County School System as well as with Stephens Behavior Consulting, LLC.  Through her educational experience and internship opportunities she fell in love with working with adults and adolescents ages 13+; working through trauma, grief, and loss.  Mary enjoys working with individuals managing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma including adolescents and adults. She is trained in EMDR and working towards certification. She also has a strong focus in her practice as an LGBTQ+ affirming provider. Mary also provides supervision to interns as well as LPCAs pursuing full licensure.

Chandra Heath LMFT

Chandra is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) that has been working in the field for over a decade. She has experience in working with individuals, families, couples. Through her educational and work experience she has developed a niche in helping individuals and families heal and find a path that works for them. She is able to help families and couples work on enhancing their communication with each other to enhance their relationships. Her primary area of focus is on individuals and families of adolescents and adults. Chandra currently supports Marriage and Family Therapy Associates as an AAMFT supervisor. Chandra is also an AAMFT approved supervisor to supervise interns and Marriage and Family Therapy Associates.

Edith Del Moral MA, Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Edith is a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (MFTA) and attended the University of Kentucky to receive her graduate degree. During her Masters program, Edith worked with individuals, couples, and families of many backgrounds and used a systemic approach to view how many things in our lives are intertwined. She is an advocate for mental health in Latinx communities and wishes to spread awareness for the mental health needs of underrepresented populations. She also practices as a bilingual therapist providing services to Spanish speaking individuals. She primarily uses emotionally focused therapy with couples to get partners to express their needs while also developing a sense of understanding and safety. With individuals, Edith works with those managing depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and life transitions.  Her primary area of focus is working with adult individuals and couples.

Beth Hope MA, Marriage and Family Therapy Associate

Beth Hope is a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (MFTA) and graduate of Campbellsburg University in their Marriage and Family therapy program. She obtained experience during her masters programs obtaining over 500 clinical hours including individuals, couples, and families that sought therapy for a variety of reasons. She is trained in EMDR, Gottman Level 1 and 2 trained, and certified level 1 in Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)a type of therapy which focuses on healing the body and its stress-related responses by targeting the physiological foundations of those conditions. Her specialty is helping individuals heal from trauma and enhance the quality of relationships between family members and couples through a collaborative approach.

Juanita “Nina” Hagan MEd, LPCA

     Nina Hagan (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Clinical Associate (LPCA) in the state of Kentucky. She earned her Master of Education degree at The University of Louisville in Counseling and Personnel Services with a certification in Elementary School Counseling.  She brings many rich life experiences and a unique perspective to her role as LPCA from her 36 cumulative years as school teacher and school counselor and from raising three children. 

     Nina has a passion for helping people of various ages and cultural backgrounds cope, heal and improve quality of life.  She works with clients on various personal and life challenges, such as anxiety, life transitions, identity crisis, goal-setting needs, adjustment needs, decision making, depression, ADHD, relational abuse/trauma and grief/loss.  She has personally found a passion for helping others heal from damaging effects of traumatic experiences.

     Nina brings a blend of counseling experience, skills, knowledge and life experiences that will benefit clients from various stages of life. She emphasizes a collaborative, client-centered approach and provides counseling services for children, adolescents and adults ages 4 and up. She uses multi-modal and integrative style of therapy, drawing on different theories and interventions, depending on individual client’s needs. She places priority on the therapeutic relationship and encourages clients to recognize their strengths to help and heal themselves.  She has completed certifications in trauma treatment and bereavement counseling.  She is a member of Kentucky Counseling Association (KCA) and American Counseling Association. (ACA).

Lynsey Carr MEd,LPCA

Lynsey Carr is originally from East Tennessee with a background in nutrition. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) and a graduate of University of the Cumberlands with a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During her internship, she completed her Masters training at Stephens Behavior Consulting, LLC with a primary focus of providing services to children and their families. Lynsey is trained in using AutPlay Therapy to help support the mental health needs of neurodivergent children and is pursuing her Play Therapy certification working with the pediatric population.

Kim Root MA,LPCA

Kim Root (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate. She received her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Spalding University in 2023. During her yearlong practicum and internship, she worked at Stephens Behavior Consulting with clients as young as 3 years old as well as kids, teens, and adults of all ages. 

Kim has begun specializing in treating trauma and stress related conditions and has completed basic training in EMDR through EMDR Consulting and is pursuing full certification in EMDR as well as Play Therapy. In developing her skills as a trauma specialist, Kim is also pursuing ongoing training in Internal Family Systems, Janina Fisher’s Certified Clinical Trauma Professional training, Ramani Durvasula’s Certified Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician Training, Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. In addition to working with individuals who are healing from the effects of stress and trauma, Kim has a passion for working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals and is pursuing ongoing training in these areas as well.

Kim is dedicated to serving people across the lifespan who need a safe and empathetic space to deal with present day stressful experiences, heal from traumatic experiences from the past and strengthen their resources to handle what is to come. Her mission is to help clients heal the fragmented self and find their way toward integration, self-acceptance, self-efficacy, peace and dignity.

Katie McFarland MS, LPCA

Katie is a graduate of Spalding University where she received her Masters of Arts degree in clinical counseling. Katie completed her practicum and internship experience where she gained experience working with a diverse population. Her specialty is utilizing a CBT approach with adolescents and adults seeking support while managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, life transitions, and development of coping skills.

Craig Goodwin MA, LPCA

Craig is a child and family therapist providing in person and telehealth services from our location in, Paducah, KY. His ten years of experience in mental health with young people includes therapeutic play, expressive therapy, nature and adventure based counseling. He holds a bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Pennsylvania State University, a masters degree in school counseling from Adams State University, an associates degree in nursing from West Kentucky Community and Technical College, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Governors University, and pursuing an additional masters degree to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He lives in Lone Oak with his wife, Amy, and five kids: Norah, Nathan, Kai, Lane, and Camilla. His border collie, Mika, and labradoodle, Millie, keep a watchful eye on everyone. When not studying, counseling, working nights as a registered nurse, or wrangling kids, Craig enjoys reading, rock climbing, fishing, and traveling. His passion is supporting children and families raising non biological children as well as navigating the complexities of FASD, trauma and attachment disorders.

Elisa Sykes-Brees MA,LPCC

Elisa is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of KY. Prior to her work in the mental health field she served in the US Army. She has previous experience working for the Center for Women and Families providing support to women in domestic violent situations. In addition to this she previously worked as a therapist at Seven Counties services focused mostly on adolescents and adults, providing individual, group, and family therapy.  She currently works as a mental health consultant with Jefferson County Public School system. She has been with Stephens Behavior Consulting since 2016, here she primarily sees middle school age and up as well as adults. Her preference is working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and grief and loss.

Graduate Intern Clinicians:

We currently have Graduate student interns that are completing their internship in counseling. They are able to provide individual, family, couples, and group counseling at a free or reduced fee while under supervision of $30.00 unless you currently receive Medicaid benefits; then this fee is waived.

Adjunctive Therapists:

We have several adjunctive providers including interns, behavior technicians (RBTs), case managers, and community support associates to provide wrap around services to you and your family.
